Strategic Plan
The vision of the Reno Philharmonic Association (RPA) is to be recognized as a significant contributor to the artistic, educational, social, and civic enrichment of the region’s quality of life. The mission is to produce inspirational orchestral performances of the highest quality for broad audiences, support exceptional educational and outreach programs, and provide leadership in the performing arts community.
The strategic goals of the RPA are to:
- Produce orchestral programs of the highest quality
- Support exceptional educational and outreach programs
- Attract and retain larger and more diverse audiences and participants
- Lead and support the performing arts in the community
- Ensure a stable and sustainable financial position
Each theme area in the Strategic Plan has specific defined goals that will provide the means of achieving the strategic goals.
EXCEL – Enrich the Greater Musical community with artistically significant projects
CONNECT – Retain and Grow Audiences in Growing Demographics
LEAD – Provide Regional Arts Leadership to do BIG Things
EDUCATE – Inspire a New Community of Symphonic Music Enthusiasts & Performers
ENDOW – Create a $10M Endowment by 2020
Since the plan’s implementation in 2010, many of the strategic goals for the first year have been achieved, and additional objectives have been established that reflect new priorities and opportunities for the Reno Philharmonic.
- EXCEL: The new Phil Up! pops series premiered in September 2011, and in October 2011 the inaugural Composer-in-Residence Program will be completed. In 2010, the RPA partnered with Artown to bring the Diavolo Dance Company to Reno for a very successful performance with the Reno Philharmonic.
- CONNECT: In 2010, a multi-tier marketing campaign focusing on new demographics and changing the perception of the Reno Phil was established. The new website launched in Fall 2011 has been restructured and enhanced to be more efficient and effective. An online survey of our stakeholders was conducted in 2011, and results of that survey as well as feedback from our audiences will be an important catalyst for organizational planning.
- LEAD: The RPA collaborated with other arts organizations on combined media luncheons, and the performing arts magazine “Center Stage” is now in its second year.
- EDUCATE: A rigorous assessment of the education programs was completed in 2010. Celebrate Strings was expanded from one school to three schools in 2011. The Youth Symphony Orchestra’s thrilling performance in Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles has resulted in a significant increase in the number of youth auditioning for the YSO. The family concert is in its third year and audiences are expanding.
- ENDOW: Planning for the endowment campaign is well underway. Materials have been developed, best practices have been evaluated, and community experts have been recruited as advisers. The Endowment continues to grow because of our generous donors and the expertise of our management team.
