Individual Support

Special Projects

“To entertain. To inspire. To enhance the quality of life within the community it serves. To excel. And to gain both recognition and prominence on a national level and beyond. These are the ultimate achievements the Reno Philharmonic strives to attain.” Reno Philharmonic Strategic Plan 2010-2020.

The vision of the Reno Philharmonic Association (RPA) is to be recognized as a significant contributor to the artistic, educational, social, and civic enrichment of the region’s quality of life. The mission is to produce inspirational orchestral performances of the highest quality for broad audiences, support exceptional educational and outreach programs, and provide leadership in the performing arts community.

The Reno Philharmonic’s Strategic Plan [link to PDF] serves as a coherent foundation and a spirited catalyst toward attaining strategic success that will enable the Philharmonic to fulfill its mission and reach bold new levels of orchestral success in alignment with its vision. In this plan, the RPA identified several key projects that will enrich the community, the region, and ultimately achieve national significance. We encourage donors and funders to join us in making these projects a reality.

Major funding opportunities are available for those who believe strongly in the power of music to transform a region both culturally and economically. Each special project brings its own unique way of achieving national recognition and instilling a sense of pride in our own community. By investing in the arts, you will be enhancing the quality of life and contributing to the economic well-being of our region.

Composer-in-Residence

The Composer-in-Residence project will commission new works by up and coming composers to be premiered by the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra. When appropriate, partnerships will be established with other arts organizations to enhance the benefits to the community. The project has an education component with workshops and programs in the local schools.

Art + Environment

The Reno Philharmonic has partnered with the Nevada Museum of Art to present a commissioned work during the Art + Environment Conference, an international conference held in Reno to unite a dynamic group of thinkers shaping ideas about human interactions with global environments. This commissioned work is also part of the Composer-in-Residence project.

Star Spangled Banner

To celebrate the bicentennial of the “Star Spangled Banner” in 2014, the Reno Philharmonic will collaborate with an internationally recognized composer to develop a Young People’s Concert for schools throughout the nation. The all-encompassing curriculum program containing a multi-media platform will be performed by local orchestras in large and small demographic areas.

Annual Music Festival

In the near-future, the Reno Philharmonic is planning a regional music festival based on the highly successful existing festivals such as Tanglewood Music Festival and Aspen Music Festival that would include performances and educational opportunities. Where appropriate and mutually beneficial, the Reno Philharmonic will collaborate with local colleges, universities, and other arts organizations to ensure the success of this project.

Organizational Archive

In preparation of the Reno Philharmonic’s 50th anniversary of the orchestra in 2019, volunteers will be gathering and archiving information about the organization and publish an archival history. This project is a wonderful addition to the rich history of our region.
