Reno Philharmonic Chorus Vance George is internationally recognized as one of America’s leading choral conductors. He has conducted throughout the U.S. as well as Europe, Australia and Asia; most recently in Salzburg, Sydney, Minneapolis, and Indianapolis. He has received great acclaim for his unique knowledge of musical styles, languages, mastery of vocal colors, and synthesis of the choral-orchestral tradition.

His work embodies the legacy of the great maestros he has known as protégé and colleague, especially Kurt Masur, John Nelson, Helmut Rilling, Robert Shaw, Julius Herford, Margaret Hillis, Robert Page, Otto Werner-Mueller, and Mary Oyer. During his 23 years with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus the group was hailed as one of the finest in the world. On their behalf he accepted two Grammy awards for Best Performance of a Choral Work Orff’s Carmina burana – 1992 and Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem – 1995 Other Grammy-winning recordings featuring the chorus include Stravinsky’s Perséphone and Mahler’s Symphony III. TV and film credits include an Emmy for Sweeney Todd in 2002 and soundtracks for Amadeus, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, and Godfather III.
His performances encompass the choral/orchestral works of Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven, Verdi, and Faure. Twentieth century composers include Stravinsky, Schoenberg, V. Williams, Penderecki, Lutoslawski and Meredith Monk. Highly regarded as a teacher of conducting he has presented workshops throughout the U.S. including Buffalo, Eastman, Cincinnati, Berkeley, and the San Francisco Conservatory. A graduate of Goshen College he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Kent State University, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Chorus America. He has served on the board of Chorus America and the National Endowment of the Arts.

Jennifer Tibben-Lembke is currently a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno, as a voice instructor. She received her MM in Vocal Performance from UNR in May 1997. She received her BA from Gustavus Adolphus College, May 1992, with majors in music and biology. She was a member of the Gustavus Choir, serving as frequent soloist and soprano section leader. Before moving to Reno, she sang professionally with the James Chorale, in Chicago.

Jennifer is the Artistic Director and conductor of Bella Voce, a select community women’s choral ensemble. She has received a Sierra Arts Foundation grant for her work as conductor of Bella Voce. As a conductor, she has also led the UNR Concert Choir, was guest conductor for the Truckee Meadows AGO Choral Festival, and founding conductor of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Children’s Choir. She currently maintains a private voice studio in Reno and conducts the adult choir at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

Opera roles include Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), the Lawyer (Trial by Jury), Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica), and Susannah (Susannah) as a part of the UNR Lyric Opera Theater program, as well as Sister Genevieve (Suor Angelica) with Nevada Opera. She was a guest artist for the 2001 Nevada Opera Fireworks concert. She has also served as soloist with the Reno Chamber Orchestra for Bach’s B MinorMass and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. With the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra she has sung the part of Paquette in Candide and as the soprano soloist for Carmina Burana. Upcoming performances include Mrs. Gobineau with UNR Lyric Opera, and featured soloist with the Carson City Symphony.

Ms. Tibben-Lembke is active in the American Choral Directors Association, and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). In the summer of 2002, she was chosen to be one of twelve interns for the NATS Summer Intern Program, where she studied with Costanza Cuccaro.
