Reno Phil Guild Dance is Casablanca
February 10, 2006
(RENO, NV) On February 11, The Reno Philharmonic Guild will present a Valentine’s Dance that will be “an affair to remember.” The theme of the event is from the 1942 movie “Casablanca” with Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. The event will be at the Siena Hotel Spa and Casino, located at One South Lake Street at Mill Street in Reno on Saturday, February 11.
This will be the fourth annual winter fund raising event put on by the Guild. In keeping with the theme, Phil Jerome and Reno’s Big Swing Band will be on hand to provide entertainment. They will be playing their forte: big band and swing music. There will be a dinner, a prize drawing, and an auction.
The Reno Philharmonic Guild is an association of classical music enthusiasts that raise funds and provide support for the Philharmonic. For the last three years, proceeds to the Philharmonic have exceeded $50,000 and this year the total will be $66,000.
The Guild presents “POPS on the River” every summer. That event is the keystone of ArtTown and is a lot of fun. It is a “concert on the green” and is a “shorts and Hawaiian shirt” type affair.
This dinner and dance is at the other end of the dress spectrum with black tie recommended. “There aren’t many events in Reno suitable for a tux and this is one of the best.” Linda Jewett, event chair said. “One patron at last year’s dance said that ‘it was the most elegant event’ that she had been to in Reno,” she added.
The objective of the Guild fundraisers is to raise money for the education programs of the Reno Philharmonic, one of which is a new initiative to offer music instruction to students from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade. The RPA will provide the instruments and instruction to all Washoe County School District students in the 21st Century After School Program. The goal for this event is to generate a significant portion of the Philharmonic’s Youth Education budget.
