Featuring Oliver Leitner, violin [Davidson Fellow]

On the Program:
CHAUSSON: Poème, op 25 (Leitner)
HAYDN: Symphony No. 49 in F minor “La passion”
ELGAR: Enigma Variations , op. 36

Violinist Oliver Leitner, former superstar concertmaster of our Youth Symphony Orchestra, returns as our celebrated Davidson Fellow, performing Chausson’s rhapsodic Poeme, an exquisite, lyrical showcase for the violin. Haydn’s Symphony No. 49 is a prime musical manifestation of the Sturm und Drang (Storm and Stress) period in Germany, a dramatic and emotive standout among classical era symphonies. Elgar’s Enigma Variations is one of classical music’s unsolved mysteries. Beginning with a haunting theme and followed by variations on it, music lovers enjoy musing over the
“enigma” that Elgar references.
