Michael Henry

Chair

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Michael and his wife Julia lived in Kansas City until moving to Reno in 2000. Michael served in the Kansas City Police Department for six years while attending college night classes. The Henrys were avid supporters of the Kansas City Symphony, volunteering time by chauffeuring guest artists and conductors to and from the airport, hotels, restaurants and event spaces.

Michael graduated with a BS and MS degree from Central Missouri State University, an MA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, an Ed.M from Harvard University and an MS from the University of Kansas.

Michael made a career change into public education as an elementary school teacher and then into school administration. After moving to Reno he served as a principal at two Washoe County School District schools before retiring in 2015.

Michael’s previous board experience includes the Children’s Museum of Kansas City, president of the UMKC School of Education Alumni Association, President of the Clay County (MO) Museum and Historical Society, appointed to the Clay County Historic Sites Board and Secretary of the Arrowcreek Homeowners Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Sparks and is a Captain with the Washoe County Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association.

In addition to their love of the Reno Phil, the Henrys are members of the Reno Corvette Club and love to spoil their dogs Merle and Bea.
