August 4, 2020: The Reno Phil On a Mission to Spread Joy Through Music in the Region

Reno, Nev. (August 4, 2020)—How does a symphonic organization pursue it’s mission during a pandemic? The Reno Phil has been creatively finding solutions for the challenges caused by the pandemic to continue bringing live music to our community. For the last 6 weeks, the Reno Phil has been performing surprise pop-up performances throughout the region on Saturday evenings at 7:00 PM. The final evening of these surprise performances will take place this Saturday, August 8, 2020.

Over the course of the 7 weeks, the Reno Phil will have sent out 47 musicians to over 100 locations in Reno, Sparks & Tahoe. Locations have been kept a secret, in order to prevent any public gatherings from taking place. Safety has been a primary concern for the organization, with musicians wearing masks and social distancing.

“The essence of the Reno Phil is live music,” said Tim Young, Reno Phil President & CEO. “When our concert venues were closed we had to find a new way to continue to spread musical joy in the community. By performing these concerts our musicians have re-discovered the thrill of live performance, and hundreds of people have been surprised and delighted by live music in their driveway or park.”

The Reno Phil’s first concert of the 52nd season will take place on October 3 & 4, 2020 with a small, string only orchestra via a livestream.
