Video Audition Instructions

Auditions for the 2020-21 season will be done through home video recording and submission. Video and audio do not need to be professional – a basic phone recording is fine. When preparing, make sure that your entire instrument and technique is visible, and that the framing is horizontal. Do not stand too close to the mic. Here is an example of a sample audition video.

If you are unable to record at home, you may schedule a prerecorded audition with the Youth Orchestra Manager at dhaskins@renophil.com. Please make these arrangements ASAP as social distancing and stay-at-home requirements may make scheduling difficult.

  1. If you do not have a YouTube account, please create an account at www.youtube.com
  2. Record a video featuring all audition material in one take. First scales, then your 1-minute solo, and finally excerpts. Please play all excerpts for the ensemble you would like to audition for. If you wish to be considered for a specialty instrument such as piccolo or bass trombone play those excerpts as well.
  3. Upload the video to YouTube by May 22. No late entries will be accepted. Video uploading can take a long time, please do not wait until the last minute to upload your video.
  4. Set the privacy of the video to unlisted.
  5. Title video in this format “Desired Ensemble Name Audition 2020 – Student name, instrument” (i.e. YSE Audition 2020– David Haskins, Violin)
  6. Complete the Video Audition Submission form, found below, and be sure to include the URL of your video.
  7. If you have any problems please contact David Haskins, Youth Ensembles Manager at dhaskins@renophil.com
