Six Mahler Facts for Classix Six – Five

Mahler Fact Number Five

Once while Mahler conducted the opening night performance of Wagner’s Lohengrin in Budapest, the prompter’s box caught fire. Mahler continued to conduct the orchestra while flames engulfed the stage. He stopped them for just as long as it took the fire fighters to extinguish the fire and immediately resumed the performance.
